"Wet" seeded crops such as watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber and, tomato are either fermented in their own juice for 1 to 3 days to remove any adhering fruit tissue or particularly in the case of the watermelon seeds as pictured here, they may be washed and cleaned using a series of screens, brushes, and pressurized water. The seeds are conveyed through the screen cage in the center of the screen where they are washed with brushes and water. The cleaned seeds are deposited in the orange steel tub (with a shovel on tope) in center of the picture. Since the seeds are hydrated at this point, they must be dried prior to storage.
