Hot water treatment is commonly use to control seed borne disease in the family Brassicaceae. Seeds are submerged in 50 degrees C water for from 20 minutes to 2 hours. This treatment is often performed to kill the seed borne disease Blackleg although it is unclear how effective these treatments actually are. Seeds must be carefully dried after treatment. Hot water treatment may also damage the seeds.
